“Sonic Drilling Technology……Applications and Benefits”
Len Rexrode and Bill Poupis will be our guest speakers at this month’s dinner presentation. Combined they have over 60 of years drilling experience in the environmental, geotechnical, geothermal and oil & gas industries. Lenny is the owner and president of Aquifer Drilling & Testing, Inc. (ADT) and Bill Poupis is the Vice President/General Manager. ADT has been serving geologists and engineers in the Northeast since 1988. Their services include Sonic, Air/Mud Rotary, Geoprobe, Drive and Wash and Hollow Stem Auger drilling. Vactron Utility Clearance, Geophysical Services (GPR) and Test Pitting are other services provided by ADT and their affiliate companies Diversified Geophysics and Environmental Closures.
Choosing the right technology for sample collection and well installation has always been a challenge when working in the greater New York City Area. It is not unusual to employ multiple techniques at the same site in order to complete a task. With the introduction of Sonic Drilling the need to utilize multiple techniques has been greatly reduced. A recent example highlighting this benefit was seen at a site in Brooklyn where previous mobilizations included Hollow Stem Auger, Mud Rotary, Air Rotary and Drive and Wash methods. Ten (10) wells to 70-feet continuously sampled would take between 3-4 weeks to complete because of refusals, changing drilling methods and re-clearing new drilling locations. That same scope of work took less than 2 weeks to complete using a Mini Sonic rig. No refusals were encountered which meant that the need to re-clear (vactron/GPR) locations was not necessary.
